original notes:
The other commonly circulating version of this recording which I'm familiar with, the 4th gen > CDR (originating from ACR) which I've torrented yesterday, has been dehissed which shows clearly in spectral view, there's a cut off at the 6kHz point and a carrier signal at 16kHz. The Denmark Behind Us RoIO which I've used here, sourced from CDRs and downloaded years ago, is unprocessed, shows up a full spectral, but is unlistenable (to me at least) due to it running way too slow. Other issues are that the track order is incorrect and ASoS fades out before the end, missing about a minute compared to the 4th gen. Besides that it suffers from a few pops, glitches and skips here and there and it has a few level dropouts, especially at the beginning during Cymbaline which dropouts obviously are on the original source as well. After speed correction it becomes very apparent how much better and clearer it sounds than the 4th gen, it's very hissy though (4th gen analog seems about right), low end heavy and still not stellar, but for instance Nick's drums can be heard better here while on the 4th gen it's often very tough to make him out. In short, it's as if some sort of blanket has been lifted off of it.
I corrected the above issues and believe this to be a big improvement and the best representation of this recording that can be achieved with the sources available to me, while staying clear from de facto remastering processes which I'll leave to others. You be the judge.
