Notes:
The sound quality on all three of these disks is excellent. On the first two volumes there is a short DJ commentary about the BBC broadcasts before several of the songs. It does not hurt the CD overall in any way. It sounds like it is taken from a recent broadcast by BBC intended to be an anthology of early Pink Floyd songs. Anybody have any more info on this?

Obviously since most of the songs are from BBC broadcasts, there are numerous x-refs. However, these disks make for a very nice compilation of some of PF's best songs of that time, including some relatively rare tracks. My personal favorite is Vol.2. "Green is the Colour" is very beautifully done, as well as the rare tracks such as "Labyrinth" and Oneone/Fingal's Cave.

Third volume of the "Ultra Rare Trax" trilogy. Excellent sound. The sources given on the back of the CD are often wrong (the correct sources are those listed above).

The first two tracks come from the May 1969 "Night Ride" session. During that session, two other songs were played ("Grantchester Meadows" and "Cymbaline"), but don't appear here. "The Narrow Way" is in fact only part 3. The sound quality is excellent (Ex+).

"Atom Heart Mother" is the performance for the "Peel Sunday Concert" broadcast, recorded on July 16, 1970, at the BBC Paris Theatre, London. But it's not the whole performance of that song (25 minutes), there's only the second half here (it begins with the bluesy part, "Funky Dung"). Sound quality is excellent (Ex+), but some vinyl scratches can be heard. There are many X-refs with the 25 minutes version, and with better sound quality (not mastered from vinyl).

"A Saucerful Of Secrets" is EXACTLY the same version that appears on "Ultra Rare Trax Vol.1"! Here, the source given on the back cover says June 1968, while the source given for the "Ultra Rare Trax Vol.1" version is May 1968. The real date is June 25, 1968. This is one of the four songs played during that "Top Gear" session (the whole session is on "Ultra Rare Trax Vol.1"). I don't understand why people at "Genuine Pig" didn't notice that they pressed the same song twice on their "Ultra Rare Trax" collection! Sound quality is Ex+.

"Careful With That Axe, Eugene" is a true rarity. This is a good stereo audience recording, from the Kralingen Pop Festival, June 28, 1970. The film soundtrack from that Festival ("Stamping Ground"), only contains two Floyd's songs: "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" and "A Saucerful Of Secrets". So, "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" is the third song to have surfaced from that festival. Sound quality is weak, comparing to the other tracks of the CD: VG-.

"Ultra Rare Trax Vol.3" is only interesting for the completists who want "Careful..." from Kralingen. All the other tracks can easily be found elsewhere, with comparable sound quality. ~ Marc Olivier.
